Training

«The ultimate goal of learning, finding out, exercising and practising leadership for education is to help children and young people to recognize their undeniable value as persons, to generate high expectations about their current and future possibilities, and to contribute to transforming the environments of special difficulty that they come from»

Inmaculada Egido. Course director

About the course

The programme’s training course for whole child development leadership in contexts of special diversity brings together a set of theories that may be summed up, in practice, through a learning process based on the case method.

In the 5 modules that make up the course, management teams will be asked to make choices, aimed at decision-making in four areas of action, considered high-priority in research into educational leadership:

  1. A specific view of the school that is passed on to members of the educational community.
  2. A new organizational focus.
  3. A re-interpretation of the curriculum.
  4. A continuous process of development, accompaniment and supervision of relationships with teachers, families and students.

Recipients

This course is intended for members of management teams (directors, directors of study, secretaries) of public schools, both primary and secondary, who work in socially disadvantaged or especially vulnerable areas with students in risk of social exclusion and who are considering ways to improve their management capacities.

«Our basis will be the school leader’s self-awareness, reflection on the goals that drive him or her, strategies and identification of a deeper understanding of the reality that they must lead»

Mireia Tintoré. Course lecturer

The teachers of this course will help students to take a honest look at their own job and will guide them in the process of addressing some of the competences they can improve in performing in school environments with special complexity.

Goals in training that guides leadership towards students’ Whole Child Development

Course methodology

This training programme will use the «case method», a way of developing competences to think about relevant social problems and about complex subjects in our society. In education, this methodology helps to encourage research and compile life stories and the backgrounds of organisations. It consists of presenting a real-life situation to motivate reflection and decision-making and many researchers agree that it is the most practical way to learn management skills.

Learning benefits

  • It helps in developing critical analysis.
  • It helps to solve problems in situations similar to those in practice, but in a «laboratory» environment.
  • It encourages active learning and research about real-life cases.
  • It develops cooperative learning and an exchange of ideas.
  • It builds knowledge.
  • It teaches how to discover real problems behind a complex situation, to find solutions and to discover that there are neither recipes nor «the» solution.

Assessment results

In this section, we will be publishing the results of the assessment procedures applied in the different phases of the project.

Once the training course has been completed in Spain and Portugal in the 2019-2020 academic year, we publish the document that summarises the main results of its assessment.

This summary is published within the WCDL Worksheets collection, which gathers the most singular contributions of the programme in its different areas: research, training, evaluation and mentoring.
